Journal Post 18/02/2011

Today we filmed something more for our title sequence; it was of a man wiping blood off of his chin. Personally, I don't like it because of how the background is white and I don't think that it was close enough to his chin, also there wasn't enough blood on his chin to make it look convincing that he was a vampire. Hopefully once we have filmed the opening scene in Madrid we will just get rid of the extreme close up, because there may not be enough room for both clips to fit as at the moment there is only 10 seconds to spare. Having to do all of this has really concerned me because of how far behind our group now is, as we will have to do the audience research and evaluation when we come back which I really wanted to have already had done when we came back off of half-term.

Journal Post 16/02/2011

Today we managed to get a lot done:
  • We found new music and got it onto our title sequence on Final Cut Pro and we think that it works much better than 'Creep'.
  • We slowed down quite a few clips so that it goes in time with the music.

  • Sonal found a new really good font that was an effect on Final Cut Pro; it fades in and out nicely and goes well with the whole sequence as it gives it a sense of sophistication.
Unfortunately we won't be able to have our title sequence done by half-term as we will be filming again during half-term on a school trip in Madrid. Some feedback was to get our opening sequence filmed because it might make the sequence look better.

Journal Post 14/02/2011

This week and last week has all been a bit of a rush with trying to get our editing done and as a result of this I did't manage to keep up with my production journal. Part of our feedback was to get rid of the shots of the wall as they gave away too much of our vampire. Once we had done that it seemed complete but just needed improving. Some improvements that we think we may need to add are:

  • Some shots of the vampire, for example, an extreme close up of him wiping blood off of his mouth, and someone holding a photo of Emily (the victim) listening to the song 'Creep' grieving.
  • Thinking about music that sounds better with our title sequence because there aren't any lyrics to our song as we never managed to get them recorded due to timing between us and the girl that was going to sing it.

Journal Post 04/02/11

All this week we have been busy getting our editing done. Early in the week we decided against filming our opening sequence because we were already up to 1min 40secs and we hadn't finished slowing down the pictures or the clips and realised that it would take us well over 2 minutes. Today we recorded a number of screams to go at the end of our title sequence, because the original one just didn't sound life-threatening, and we now have a realistic scream. Also, we changed the way our titles transitioned, it was called 'Dither Dissolve' which worked really well. We also changed the way our pictures transition in the next making it look more like a flash of a camera. I feel that we still have a lot to do and am slightly worried that it may not be finished in time, as we still haven't got our vocals recorded which is needed so we can see what clips we want to slow down in time to the music.

Today we got a lot more editing done, however, we had to remove the pictures from what we had edited and import them again onto Final Cut Pro because it was too difficult to cut them as they had stuck together as one big film. We finally worked out how to get the titles on to our film and we have most of them done, then we will have to work out where we want the title of the film to go. We will have to go back to music to find out when we can record the vocals for our music.

Journal Post 26/01/11

Today we got a lot of editing done and are trying to decide where all of our titles will go, which is quite hard because if all of our titles come before the title of the film then it will run the risk of it looking too much like a trailer and we can't decide where we want it to go. Also, we are slowing clips down so that they will go in time with the music because its quite a slow song and some of the clips might be a little too fast for it. We decided that at the end of our title sequence we want it to black out and start with the opening sequence of our film which will be a friend of Emily's grieving her listening to creep by Radiohead on her radio, which we thought was a nice idea because it will fade out from the music over the title sequence to have it being listened to in the next scene. We have scheduled the band to record the song tomorrow after school.

Journal Post 24/01/11

Today we managed to get our title sequence transferred from iMovie to Final Cut Pro and started to edit it thoroughly. It is a lot harder on Final Cut Pro but we think we will be able to get it done. We might have to record another scream for the end because we're still not sure whether it sounds real enough and we plan on recording our music on wednesday. There are effects that we want to add in but we're not sure how to do it so we're going to have to get someone to help us with that, for example, at the end of the pictures we want it to dissolve/fade into the start of the filmed title sequence.

Journal Post 21/01/11

Today we got all of our editing done on iMovie, excluding sound effects, music and titles etc. I think it was quite successful as it didn't take that long to do, but we did have to add some more photos to our continuity sequence pictures at the start of the title sequence because it didn't look quite right just as four pictures and we also made them flick through slower. However, we still want to try and edit it on Final Cut Pro as well. At the end of next week we hope to have edited on Final Cut Pro and have recorded our music (Creep - Radiohead) and edited it onto our title sequence. As we were editing we noticed a few things that we felt we needed to change, for example, the scream at the end didn't really fit so we want to record another one and we also want to record someone panting for true sound effects.

Journal Post 19/01/11

Today we started editing and only managed to get done the part that already should have been done. However, it looks like we have a lot of film and probably won't have to shoot any more. We've also planned for our music to be recorded next week. So far, we are keeping to our Production Schedule.

Journal Post 17/01/11

We had our bit of filming edited and saved, but then Final Cut Pro wouldn't let us open it and so now we have to re-edit that part. Also, we now have to edit on iMovie. Today we got the rest of our title sequence filmed (the chase scene in the woods) and are ready to begin editing. It was successful because we got it all finished and have many shots and clips to choose from. Hopefully, we have enough and won't need to re-shoot any of it.

Today we spent our lesson updating our blogs making sure that we were all up to date. We also planned that we would film the rest of our title sequence this monday and we have chosen Bostall Woods to do it in because the location is closest to where we live and we know those woods quite well. We hope to get what we have already filmed edited.

Journal Post 13/01/11

Today we got some of our filming done which was of the vampire looking at the photos. I think it was quite successful as we got that part of the title sequence done. However, there were some things that weren't considered like how it was going to be on my bedroom wall but my bedroom wall is purple which wouldn't necessarily be on a man's bedroom wall so we had to cover it with white paper, which took up more time. Next lesson we will get together and make sure it looks ok as we go to edit it.

Journal Post 12/01/11

Today we got all our photos printed that we needed for our wall that would hold all the images that the vampire took when he was stalking the girl. We also booked out a camera and tripod for tomorrow's filming.
  • Put photos on wall to set up for tomorrow's filming
  • Start to think about what kind of music we will use in our title sequence

Journal Post 10/01/11

Today we got our continuity sequence pictures done and got many other pictures for our wall done as well. It was a successful day as we got everything done that we wanted done. Now as soon as our pictures are printed, which we plan on doing in our lesson wednesday, we want to book out a camera and tripod for thursday and start to film. However, what we really wanted was for in the pictures the girl to be wearing a different outfit in each one, but we ran out of time for this to have happened so it won't look as good as it should have.

Journal Post 07/01/11

Today we started to take our photos that are going to be going on a wall to show that the girl is being stalked, and tried to take our continuity sequence pictures. However, this didn't quite go to plan because when we were taking the photos we wanted to have them zoomed in because it would give a better feeling that she is being stalked, but half of the photos we took were blurry and many of our ideas of were to take them were interrupted by the rain. We plan to retake the photos using a much better camera that has a very good zoom as we want the continuity pictures to be perfect. Below is evidence of us taking photos for our wall images.

Journal Post 05/01/11

Today, we spent our time getting our storyboards on our blogs and making sure all our blogs were up to date. We finally chose the font for our typography and decided that the title would be red on a black background but the titles (written by... etc.) would be white so that they would be visible over our sequence. In our next lesson we plan to start taking photos for our wall of photos in the title sequence and we also need to get our "continuity sequence" perfect as it will be going at the start of our title sequence. We've also been finding pieces of film that will relate to our sequence.

Journal Post 15/12/10

Today we got our storyboard finished and started to think about what our production logo could be. Unfornately we haven't yet decided who the characters will be played by in our title sequence which meant that the titles couldn't be written on the storyboard.
We still need to:

  • Analyse title sequence of The Lost Boys
  • Get examples of what our Typography will be and choose the best one
We have also had to change the actress from my sister to Emily Hills who is a part of this group as my sister won't be able to be there when we want to take pictures and filming due to work.

Journal Post 08/12/2010

Today in our groups we started to plan and re-evaluate our Title Sequence, which we found out wasn't thoroughly thought out and wasn't being thought of as a Title Sequence but more of a Trailer so we had to go back and change quite a few things. We decided to keep the plot basically the same but a few things had to either be cut or transformed into something that would go better for our film. We had difficulty with this because it threw us right off track and we clearly hadn't realised just how unorganised we were. However, I feel that we are back on track, having changed the title of the film and the genre we can now start to think of it more as a Title Sequence. We do still need to come up with another tagline for our film.

Journal Post 26/11/2010

Today we had to present a pitch of our film to the class in our groups, pretending that they were an independent film maker and we were trying to secure funding from a Production Company. Our group (me, Emily and Sonal) chose to do a Teen Fantasy film that included vampires as we were interested in it and it would be a popular choice with our target audience especially as it would have had the young male actor 'Zac Efron' that appeals to young teenage girls but also older women. Overall, I think it was a success and that our film would have been given the money to have been produced. As part of our feedback, we were told to look at the film 'The Lost Boys' and to look at the title sequences of films directed by Tim Burton.
