Part 8 - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Overall, our preliminary task was very successful because we managed to reshoot our problem and it was solved very quickly, edited and finished on time. It was successful because we stuck to all the rules and we made ours funny so I think it was very good. We planned it thoroughly as well so we knew exactly what we were doing. I think it was quite creative because it wasn’t a cliché like most people had done. Our digital technology was well maintained with the use of a tripod that really helped to make everything steady and look professional. The less successful parts, I think, were the sounds because of the part where the girl is walking towards the door there is a lot of background noise that people made in the corridor we were in and then when she gets to the door there’s barely any sound other than the noise she makes opening the door, so that doesn’t really show continuity. When making our title sequence there wasn’t any kind of conversation that needed to be listened to and it was all covered by our music anyway, however, the scream was needed to be heard above the music so to overcome that we just turned the volume of the scream up and the volume of the music down so that it could be heard but I think that the music still sounds the same throughout so its good that you can’t tell that the volume changes.

Questionnaires

These are some questionnaires I gave out to people once they had watched the title sequence. I think overall that the feedback and results were quite good.

Examples of Audience Feedback

  • Yeah I thought it was really good!
  • Awesome!!!
  • It’s quite good, it has the twilight kinda feeling, that scream is shrilling maaan
  • It's really good, I like the effects such as how the production logo shook and was blurry. Also how you put the camera sideways on the floor when she was being attacked in the woods. It was a good effect to makeyou feel she has actually fallen down. Really good title sequence :)
  • Love the slow motion running!! Very good work here!! Well done girliesss <3
  • Love the slow motion running!! The typography really works with the whole title sequence! I didn't really get the bit where Charlotte is sitting on the bed and looking at the pictures. But apart from that it’s awesome :) Well done girls!
  • The man wiping the blood off his mouth was my favourite bit!! Can't believe you removed it!
  • It looks like a good horror film.
  • It was really really good, but you could say you don't need the end bit.
  • I thought that was actually very good but I'm not sure about the pictures at the beginning maybe you could have one of Emily like looking around like she thinks she's being followed but apart from that it was really good it looked like a psycho horror like Blair witch or something scary.
  • I thought the video was intriguing and interesting, if it was turned into a movie I would watch it.
  • Titles are really effective, and fit the music and genre really well, I think more consideration should of been put into where they appear as in places they seem to be random, apart from that they look excellent !! The music is also very good, simple yet effective. Well done!
  • Really good I think the music works really well with the film and I like the way you slowed it down
  • That was really good! The music is really good and it fits so much better and i love your credits they are really good!! Nice One!! :)
  • I love the typography you've used, its gives a edgy feel to the title sequence. It looks really good. Well done!

This is our final version of our title sequence 'Bitten'

We removed the glitch in the pictures at the start of the sequence and also removed the part of the vampire wiping the blood off of his chin because we all agreed that we hated it and didn't think that it worked with the rest of the title sequence. We edited the opening sequence and got it onto the end of the title sequence and used the music of 'Creep' to it as it had more of a sad tone to it. The opening scene is of the victim's friend looking at pictures of her and her friend, grieving her death.

Our first finished version of 'Bitten'

We will be filming in Madrid in half-term next week so this is our version so far. There seems to be a mistake within the sequence of pictures as it comes up black as if there should be a picture there but there isn't one, so that will have to be dealt with when we return to editing. I really like our production logo because of how it looks creepy from the flickering effect of a leaky film which really adds to the effect. We cut out a lot of the pictures because of how much time they took up and we needed space for the vampire wiping the blood off of his mouth. We slowed down many of the clips because we thought it worked better with the slow song. Also, the font changed as Sonal found a better one on Final Cut Pro that went in time with our song and the movement of the title sequence and we all agreed that it looked better.

    Journal Post 18/02/2011

Today we filmed something more for our title sequence; it was of a man wiping blood off of his chin. Personally, I don't like it because of how the background is white and I don't think that it was close enough to his chin, also there wasn't enough blood on his chin to make it look convincing that he was a vampire. Hopefully once we have filmed the opening scene in Madrid we will just get rid of the extreme close up, because there may not be enough room for both clips to fit as at the moment there is only 10 seconds to spare. Having to do all of this has really concerned me because of how far behind our group now is, as we will have to do the audience research and evaluation when we come back which I really wanted to have already had done when we came back off of half-term.
