Analysis of 'The Lost Boys' Title Sequence

It starts with it tracking along the ocean which is dark with light at the side which we gather is the moon so we know it's at night. The title comes up quite quick, and the font seems gothic and sinister while being in the colour white there is a line and a dot inbetween the words which is red which connotes to blood and death. This connotes that the film is going to be dark and that there will be death involved. A first setting is introduced with a fairground and then on a merry-go-round in the fairground we are introduced to some of the characters, and from their behaviour we can assume that they are going to be the "villain's" of this story. It isn't until a member of staff intervenes from their trouble-making and tells them, "I thought I told you to stay off the Board Walk," this tells us that they frequently cause trouble and lets us know that they will be the danger to other characters in the film. Slowly all the lights are being turned off at the fairground because it is closing and with the creepy music leads us to think that something bad is going to happen. We see the same member of staff being chased to his car from something in the sky and is then lifted into the sky and we hear him scream, this makes us think of vampires.

The title sequence then goes dark and suddenly its daylight crossing over the same body of water, and we are introduced to the other main characters. It shows that they are moving and from a billboard we see that they are going to a place called 'Santa Carla', and on the back of the billboard we are shown some graffiti that says 'Murder Capital Of The World', this makes us think that there will be many deaths there because of the vampires. It then goes on to show 'Missing people' posters and there are quite a lot of them, this suggests to the audience that these people have all been killed by the vampires. However, there is a contrast to all the sinister hints and this is shown through all the people having fun on the rollercoasters and arcade games. This suggests that even though all these deaths and missing people are going on that life still goes on, and it would make it seem like they actually know what is going on.
